This is a belated post for a cake I made for the 6th birthday of the daughter of a colleague several weeks ago. She was able to bring her daughter into the office a couple months ago (on a school holiday) so we could hold a cake design session. The daughter was so excited that she got to design her very own cake that she drew pictures of the design and handed them out around the office. It was fun. The cake was vanilla chiffon with chocolate mousse fillng and fondant decorations.

Suitcase Going Away Cake

A week and a half ago one of my best friends packed up and moved from DC out to Portland, OR to begin her studies at Oregon Health and Science University. We all threw her a party to properly send her off and I made the cake. It was chocolate chiffon with chocolate mousse filling and chocolate fondant decorations. The “stickers” on the suitcase were, of course, items of personal meaning to my friend.
We’ll miss you, Dana!

Dora Birthday Cake

Filed under: Cake Pictures, Commissions, Dora the Explorer Cake — Crazy Amy at 9:04 am on Monday, December 29, 2008

Several months ago I made a cake for my niece’s birthday. By request from the birthday girl, I made a cake for her party in the theme of Dora the Explorer. Additional requests included using her favorite color (purple) and incorporating her favorite candy (M&Ms). My mother-in-law provided the M&Ms, which she had had personalized for the occasion. The cake was a chocolate cake with mint Oreo butter cream filling. I forgot to take a picture before bringing the cake to the party, so the pictures below were taken in the parents’ bedroom, where we held it until we unveiled it as a surprise during the singing of the happy birthday song. The birthday girl was overwhelmed by the surprise, a little boy exclaimed “oh, I looove it!” and a little girl immediately stuck her finger into the side of it to get a piece. So, all in all, a very successful birthday celebration!
